Wonder Company Simulation


The Module 2 SLP requires that you continue with the scenario and simulation you began in the Module 1 SLP.


SLP2 – It is January 15, 2017. You have finished analyzing the performance of the Wonder Company, and you have submitted the report requested by your CEO, Sally Smothers. You are ready to move forward to 2017, but then….

….as you turn on the TV, you notice something very strange. You recognize that the date is January 1, 2013, and that you get to make the decisions for the Wonder Company for the 4-year period beginning with 2013. Your challenge is to do better than Joe Thomas.

At the beginning of each year (2013-2016), you will determine your pricing, your R&D allocations, and whether or not to discontinue any products. You are required to make your decisions for each year, and to report your results to see what happened. You must keep track of your decisions, making specific notes supporting each of your decisions.

Run the Wonder Co. simulation through the end of 2016. When you are finished, the date will be December 31, 2016. What is your total Score? Did you do better than Joe Thomas?

You organize your notes about your decisions, your analysis, and your reasoning into a well-written report.

Session Long Project­­

Run the Wonder Company simulation with your strategy, making decisions year by year for prices and R&D allocations. Write a 5-page paper, not including cover and reference pages, in which you discuss the decisions and the results for each year. Discuss why you did better (or worse) than Joe Thomas.


The key aspects of this assignment that should be covered and taken into account in preparing your paper include:

· As you run the simulation, keep track of your decisions and the results – both financial and marketing. Copy and paste the results into Excel or into a Word document. You will also want to record the information that you get from the Advisor. Make a note of your Final Total Score.

· Include your Final Total Score, some tables, and/or graphs showing key results. Using sound logic, be sure to clearly explain the differences from Joe.

· Remember that the key here is quality of analysis.

· Time Line Summary:


· 2016: You are hired on December 31, 2016.

· Turned in first report to the CEO on January 15, 2017.


· You again find yourself in a Time Warp that takes you back to January 1, 2013.

· You revise the decisions made by Joe for 2013 – 2016. You make new decisions each year.

· December 31, 2016 – You have gone through all four years, and you write your second report to summarize how you did.

Please note the following tips and suggestions:

· Include a cover page and reference page, in addition to the 6 pages of analysis described above:

o Use section headings as appropriate. Use graphs, charts, or figures strategically – but do not use these as “space fillers.” Include large graphs, etc., as an Appendix instead.

o Cite and reference all sources that you use in your work, including those that you paraphrase. This means include citations and quotation marks for direct quotes, and citations for that information which you have “borrowed” or paraphrased from other sources.

In this assignment, students will write a four—five page paper that describes one adult learning theory that is not covered in the textbook (e.g. Transformational Learning, Experiential Learning, Constructivist Learning, etc.)  how that theory incorporates or aligns with the principles/assumptions of adult learning as described in Chapter 2 of the textbook and in our class discussion, how the theory & principles are practically applied in the classroom and workplace, and the ways the student has personally experienced them in his/her own education, work life, or any other training setting. The Adult Learning Theory and principles covered should include adult learning in general as well as college learning (PLEASE NOTE: learning theories and principles DO NOT include general laws of learning). A minimum of five sources is required for this assignment (one of these can be the textbook).


Papers must include ALL of the following:

  1. A clear title for the paper (not “Application of Learning Theory Essay”);
  2. An introduction that includes all of the following:
  • overview of the paper
  • clear thesis statement
  • preview of the main points
  • an attention getter/interesting opening would be great as well, though not required;
  1. The body of the paper should include sections that cover each of the following:
  • Overview/Explanation of the Adult Learning Theory: This section should include a review of your research into the theory as well as explanation and examples so the reader gains a general understanding of the theory. In addition, this section should include specific ways that the theory incorporates or aligns with the Adult Learning Principles/assumptions as discussed in Chapter 2. 
  • Practical Application: In this section, explain and describe specific examples of how the adult learning theory is, or can be, practically applied in real learning situations (college classroom, business settings, as well as online). Please be sure to include how they might be applied in a COMM80 workshop. 
  • Personal Experience: Comment on the ways that the learning theory & principles affected your own education and learning experience in the classroom, at work, as well as any other learning environment. Be sure to provide specific examples.
  1. complete conclusion that does all of the following:
  • summarizes key ideas
  • reiterates the thesis or central theme of the paper
  • a thoughtful closing statement
  1. In-text citations and a reference list in APA format for all sources cited in the paper. 
  2. Finally, essays should be well organized (e.g. ideas flow logically; paragraphs develop one key idea; clear transitions between paragraphs and key sections of the paper. 

FORMAT: Essays should be typed in 10 – 12 pt font (nothing larger than 12 pt), double-spaced (except the heading, which should be single-spaced in the upper right-hand corner), one-inch margins, and grammatically correct. Please include your name, date, and course section single spaced in the upper right-hand corner, and a clear, thoughtful title for the paper centered over the text of the paper.

PLEASE NOTE: in order to conserve resources, please DO NOT include a cover page.

SUBMISSION FORMAT: Please upload a copy of your paper to Canvas AND submit a hard copy in class on Monday.

Use the reading Fisher, S. (2007). Economic human rights violations experienced by women with children in the United States. Families in Society, 91(4), 356–362 to assist you in completing the following tasks.

Again, referring to the hypothetical welfare-to-work program we have been working with, and using Articles 23–26 of the UNDHR as a standard:

  • Identify some of the opportunities the program (as you have structured it in your logic model) has to potentially enhance the realization of participants’ human rights.
  • Identify for the program (as you have structured it in your logic model) ways it can inadvertently cause human rights violations.

Effective communication is vital to constructing an accurate and detailed patient history. A patient’s health or illness is influenced by many factors, including age, gender, ethnicity, and environmental setting. As an advanced practice nurse, you must be aware of these factors and tailor your communication techniques accordingly. Doing so will not only help you establish rapport with your patients, but it will also enable you to more effectively gather the information needed to assess your patients’ health risks.

For this Discussion, you will take on the role of a clinician who is building a health history for one of the following new patients: Chosen topic in red

· 76-year-old Black/African-American male with disabilities living in an urban setting

To prepare:

With the information presented in Chapter 1 in mind, consider the following:

· How would your communication and interview techniques for building a health history differ with each patient?

· How might you target your questions for building a health history based on the patient’s age, gender, ethnicity, or environment?

· What risk assessment instruments would be appropriate to use with each patient?

· What questions would you ask each patient to assess his or her health risks?

· Select one patient from the list above on which to focus for this Discussion.

· Identify any potential health-related risks based upon the patient’s age, gender, ethnicity, or environmental setting that should be taken into consideration.

· Select one of the risk assessment instruments presented in Chapter 1 or Chapter 26 of the Seidel’s Guide to Physical Examination text, or another tool with which you are familiar, related to your selected patient.
